Directions to Bishop-Karp Barn, Freeport, Maine Got lost?: Our Phone Number (207) 865-4108

Freeport Maine is best reached by the Maine Turnpike. Coming from the South, take exit 44. Proceed to Route 295 North (beware: 95 and the Turnpike are the same in the Southern end of Maine, but they diverge at exit 44 – marked 295N ! ) Also, be aware that the turnpike is Route 495, and there is a Route 295 around Portland.
For the unobservant, there are lots of bold portions to the following directions. These are the critical points to observe. The rest constitute baloney, which, although entertaining (at least in the author’s opinion), is basically useless drivel.

  • Turnpike to exit 44 (295N), then 295 North to Freeport. Take the second Freeport exit, #22, “Freeport / Durham”. (Do not be confused by exits for Yarmouth/Freeport or Desert Road Freeport unless you want to sit in traffic with the shoppers!)
  • Go left off the exit (coming from the South)to the end, which is Route 1.
  • Go right on 1 South. Follow it @1/4 mile to LL Bean (big store on right with green awnings for you flat landers ). Once you have finished bowing to the mail order Gods:
  • Go left in front of LL Bean on Bow Street
  • If you did this correctly, you will see Bow St. Market on the left in ¼ mile just after a hard left in the road. (Bow St. Mkt is a great place to stock up. They have an especially good butcher shop, wines and pre made meals).
  • Go @1 mile and come to a fork. Keep Straight (in other words, keep to the right side of the fork). There is a sign for Wolf Neck State Park in this fork. So what, you say. Keep reading, chummie. Now at some point were not sure of:
  • Bow St. becomes Flying point road.
  • Go @ 3-4 miles , and see another sign for Wolf neck State Park on the right, along with an old cinder block building on the right. (see, I didn’t want you getting confused with that first sign for the park!).
  • Go straight for another 1.1 miles after this.
  • You will pass Flying Point Cemetary on the left at about the .8 mile mark (gettin’ precise all of a sudden, eh?? Thay means PAY ATTENTION NOW!!!). Come to a hard left in the road. If you don’t turn your steering wheel here, you are likely to hit a big tree with a green sign 18 inches square (aww, measure it if you don’t think so…) for LOWER Flying Point Road……If these directions haven’t made you want to go back to Bow St. Market to buy Liquor yet, Take a right on Lower Flying Point Rd. (if you decided you need the booze, turn around and reverse these directions to the market).
  • Go 1 mile on Lower Flying Point Rd. Don’t worry about the turn offs for Burnett Road to the right or Flying Point Campground to the left, both within the first ¼ mile on Lower Flying Point Rd.
  • You will come to a fork. The left side of the fork is Byram AvenueGo left on Byram.
  • Go left on Byram.
  • Congrats, you’re on the last road!
  • Go approximately half way to the end of the straight section and look right.
  • #40 Byram Ave is a big cedar shingled barn with a gray metal roof and white trim.
  • #44 Byram Ave is the ext building down the road on right, a big cedar shingled barn with green trim and a green metal roof. You enter by going up on the deck and in the sliders.

For either building, if you don’t find us around, we have most likely left the building unlocked for you with keys on the counter or table. If not, go back up Byram to the fork (its a nice walk and you need a stretch by now anyway…Go left at the fork, and the first house on the right (drive is @50 feet after the fork) is Heidi and John’s. The house is red with creme trim. The box says 260 on it.

Welcome to your vacation, and thank you so much for staying with us!
